Could This Be Migraine?
Migraine attacks have characteristic features. Select all that apply to your typical headache:
Sudden "thunderclap" headache, headache with fever and neck stiffness, weakness or vision loss, new headache after age 50, or headache after head injury need urgent evaluation. Do not delay.
Untreated Migraine Becomes Worse Migraine
Migraine is a progressive neurological condition in many patients. Episodes that start as occasional attacks can, without appropriate treatment, increase in frequency and eventually become chronic daily headaches. Overuse of simple painkillers further worsens the cycle. Early specialist treatment reduces attack frequency, disability and long-term progression.
Progression to Chronic Migraine
Untreated episodic migraine can transform into chronic migraine over years.
Medication Overuse Headache
Regular painkiller use causes rebound headaches — a self-perpetuating cycle.
Anxiety & Depression
Chronic pain significantly affects mental health and quality of life if untreated.

Structured Headache Evaluation
Migraine is a clinical diagnosis — no test confirms it. Our evaluation focuses on a detailed headache diary, medication history, and thorough neurological examination. Imaging (MRI brain) is done when red flags exist or an alternative cause is suspected — tumour, aneurysm, sinus disease or raised intracranial pressure. The goal is to make the diagnosis accurate without unnecessary tests, and to identify any secondary cause that would change treatment.

Acute Migraine Abortive Therapy
For acute attacks, we use a stepped approach. Mild attacks respond to NSAIDs and paracetamol. Moderate to severe attacks often need triptans combined with antiemetics. Newer agents such as gepants and lasmiditan are options for patients who cannot tolerate triptans. We also address triggers and coach on medication timing — taking the medicine early in the attack is critical. Overuse of acute medicines is carefully monitored to avoid rebound headaches.

Preventive Therapy to Cut Frequency
When attacks occur more than 4 times a month, last more than 12 hours, or significantly impair function, preventive therapy is recommended. Options include beta-blockers (propranolol, metoprolol), topiramate, amitriptyline, candesartan and newer CGRP monoclonal antibodies. Preventive medicines take 6–12 weeks to work; we monitor response and adjust. Lifestyle measures — regular sleep, hydration, consistent meals, trigger identification — form an essential part of the plan.
Fewer Attacks, Better Days
Most patients with migraine achieve significant attack reduction with the right combination of acute and preventive therapy. You deserve a plan, not just a prescription.

callSpeak with our care teamMigraine is a neurological condition causing recurring moderate to severe headaches, often on one side of the head, with throbbing pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. Attacks can last from 4 hours to 3 days.
Migraine is a distinct neurological disorder with specific features: throbbing pain, often unilateral, with nausea, light and sound sensitivity, and disability. Tension headaches are usually milder and pressure-like.
Common triggers include stress, sleep disturbance, skipped meals, dehydration, hormonal changes in women, certain foods (aged cheese, chocolate, MSG), alcohol and bright lights or strong smells.
Treatment has two arms: acute therapy to stop an attack (NSAIDs, triptans, antiemetics) and preventive therapy to reduce frequency (beta-blockers, topiramate, amitriptyline, CGRP antagonists) when attacks are frequent or disabling.
Seek urgent care for a sudden severe 'thunderclap' headache, headache with fever and neck stiffness, weakness or vision loss, headache after head injury, or a new headache after age 50.
Chronic daily headache is headache on 15 or more days per month. Common causes include chronic migraine, medication overuse headache and tension-type headache. It needs specialist evaluation.
Yes. Preventive medications, trigger identification, regular sleep, hydration, dietary consistency and stress management can significantly reduce attack frequency.
Coverage depends on your policy. Hospitalisation for severe migraine or headache evaluation is usually covered. Contact the hospital desk to confirm details.
